Kickstarter: Bicycle Kingdoms of a New World Playing Cards by Nathanael Mortensen

Nathanael Mortensen created the Dragon’s Hoard project on Kickstarter in the beggining of 2013. Jonas Akerlund was the designer of the game. The project was funded and the game is going to be printed in November, 2013.

This is Nathanael’s second project on Kickstarter. He decided to create a Bicycle branded deck of playing cards which was inspired from his previous work experience with Jonas Akerlund. Four suits of these playing cards are dedicated to four different themes – Spirit, Nature, Technology and Sky. The deck is planned to be printed by USPCC.

Kickstarter: Density Playing Cards by Roni Lagin

Roni Lagin is an artist and graphic designer living and working in Philadelphia (US). The artist played with thin lines and different shapes but didn’t get enmeshed in them. He designed custom playing cards where suit symbols are manipulated into intersecting shapes and patterns, involving elements of spirography. Roni tried to make the deck as custom as possible and renounced the use of classic court cards. He substituted them for unique ones.

The deck planned to be printed by USPCC.

Card Experiment: Utopia Playing Cards

Card Experiment (Bicycle Asura Playing CardsBabel Playing Cards) is going to release its third deck on their site – Utopia Playing Cards

Utopia: A seemingly perfect and ideal place. When ideals collide, Utopia descends into Dystopia. The Utopia deck toys with the notions of loss of self and identity as well as conformity using highly structured and similar arrangements dosed with a touch of surrealistic imagery.” ~ Card Experiment

His illustration style is rough and abrasive in the most beautiful, intricate way. Full of movement, emotion and aggressive lines, Tarin creates his renderings combining both traditional and digital media.

The deck:

  • Printed on Premium Aristocrat® stock with Magic Finish;
  • Featuring custom designed backs, aces, jokers, court cards & pips;
  • Metallic inks;

D&D: Vintage Plaid Playing Cards

Dan-and-Dave-logoToday read several words about another decks produced by two brothers Dan and Dave (The D&D Playing Card Co.). This is a set (pair) of playing card decks – Vintage Plaid Playing Cards: Casual California Blue Deck and Striking Arizona Red Deck. Two decks from two brothers… it is quite symbolic 🙂 Both decks were printed by USPCC in 2011.

These are not the first decks from D&D mentioned on pages of this blog. You can find other decks and additional information about the D&D Playing Card Co. on it.

For us, these cards bring back fond memories of childhood camping trips with our grandfather. Watching him pitch a tent, reel in a fish, and bring fire ablaze under a starry night were magical moments we never forgot. In honor of those days by the river and nights under the stars, we are proud to offer these new playing cards.” ~ Dan and Dave Bucks.

The deck: 52 playing cards + 2 Jokers + 2 Information cards. Poker size. Playing cards are printed on a premium stock and have a Cambric finish (“embossed”).
