Courts of these playing cards are calaveras. The Queen of Hearts represents one of the most famous Posada’s artworks, La Calavera Catrina (“Skull of the Female Dandy”/”The Elegant Skull”), which is a parody of a Mexican upper-class female. The Jack of Spades and the King of Spades are specific calaveras. They are hardly representatives of upper classes. On the other hand, they can be satiric illustrations of upper classes as robbers of low classes. This sense justifies their status of classic calaveras.
