Bēhance: Pan Am Playing Cards by Lisa Lam

Pan Am Playing Cards (project) were designed by the American artist Lisa Lam. Playing cards are dedicated to Pan American World Airways (commonly known as Pan Am). It was the largest international air carrier in the United States from 1927 until its collapse on December 4, 1991 (was sold to Delta Air Lines).

When the assignment was handed down to create a design-driven deck of cards, I didn’t have to think twice about choosing Pan Am as my theme. Pan Am is a pop icon on the rise. It isn’t popular enough where a current high school student can identify the brand, but the potential to use it as a hip and visually appealing subject was all there.” ~ Lisa Lam © 2013 Lisa Lam

This Joker was designed by the Greek artist, Dimitrios Kyriazis. Such a strange combination of the Hatter from Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and the “V”, a Guy Fawkes-masked vigilante from James McTeigue’s V for Vendetta.

Bēhance: Parks and Recreation Playing Cards by Andrea Austoni

This is a custom deck of playing cards designed by the Polish artist Andrea Austoni. He used the characters of one of his favorite TV comedy series – Parks and Recreation (an American comedy television series on the NBC television network). Andrea wanted to pay tribute to the show and to practice his portrait skills, doing something fun in the process. When he realized that the cast featured 8 male and four female characters the idea of the playing cards was born.

In order to echo traditional card designs he chose a two-tone muted color palette and a simplified portrait style. He made the contrast between the elegant colors and the funny characters. © Andrea Austoni
