Bēhance: “Playing Cards” by Beth Elzer

Imperial College London (The Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine) is a public research university located in London, United Kingdom, which specializes in science, engineering, medicine and business. Established on 08 July 1907, it became fully independent on 9 July 2007. Its main campus is located in the South Kensington (Albertopolis) area of Central London, with additional campuses in Chelsea, Hammersmith, Paddington, Silwood Park and Wye College.

The three main historic icons of the College are the Victorian lions, the Queen’s Tower, and the statue of Queen Victoria in the main entrance of the college. Beth Elzer, a British artist, decided to use them for composing 2014 Alumni Reunion invitations. She created a playing card visual theme to bring a sense of fun to the invitations.

Bēhance: Aces by Bohdan

Several aces were designed by a Ukrainian artist, Bohdan. These remind more posters, but they can be easily used as big ornate pips for aces. At the same time, it’s necessary to admit some strange combination of design elements: stardust, all pips (small) on each ace, floral embellishments, strips; money and gambling symbols on the Ace of Spades. Some casino can use these for its deck dedicated to New Year’s Eve celebrations.

These interesting playing card artworks are dedicated to chess games, and were designed by the Ukrainian artist, Yurii Horbachevskyi. This is quite simple, but stylish and elegant design. It can be transformed into nice playing cards due to some additional work.

Bēhance: Queen Fox and King Owl Card by Valerie Jan Villaflor

This attractive playing card was designed by the Philippine artist, Valerie Jan Villaflor. There are some examples of dualism depicted on playing cards. But I don’t remember any deck with such simple but elegant style applied to courts. Nice.
