Playing Card Art: Joker by Timothy John Shumate

An American artist, Timothy John Shumate, is a big fun of cartoons and comics. He uses his talent to create original tattoo artworks devoted to different well-known characters from Disney, DC, and other universes. Here is a Wild Card (Joker) made in accordance with his original vision. The artwork was created for C2EC (Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo).

Also you can see several more examples of his art (here and on his site). The combination of all his artworks can be a nice deck of playing cards 🙂

Bēhance: Dragon Playing Cards by Pedro Felipe Giraldo Mejia

Pedro Felipe Giraldo Mejia is a Colombian artist. He decided to create playing card artworks devoted to different incarnations of dragons. These cards look like artworks affected by different cultures because they have different stylistics. Dragons are symbolic not only in Eastern mythology. Quite often mythographers mark out two main cultural traditions of dragons: the European dragon, and the Eastern dragon. The first one comes from European folk traditions based on Greek and Middle Eastern mythologies. The second one is a composite creature combining different dragons from East Asia countries (Chinese dragon, Japanese dragon, and other dragons from appropriate countries which have their own peculiarities). So, the artworks look like a collection of both “draconian” cultural traditions.

Bēhance: Playing Cards by Liz Rust

These playing card artworks were created by an American artist, Liz Rust. She decided that her playing card faces should depict peasants instead of royalty. Proceeding from faces of the characters, Liz believes that only animals have happy life in farm yards. Uneasy working days of peasants.

DeviantART: Playing Cards by Anna Podedworna

These playing card artworks were created by a Polish artist, Anna Podedworna (akreon). The cards are interesting combinations of paintings and collages. So many intricate details have been incorporated into pips and bodies of court cards. Unfortunately, there are only three court cards… at this moment.

Fans of RPG games that are driving now the witcher Geralt of Rivia (The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt) along the vast expanses of Kaer Morhen, No Man’s Land, Skellige, and White Orchard should also know that Anna is a concept artist at CD Projekt RED (Poland).

Playing Card Art: Semi-Transformation Playing Cards by Patrik Svensson

Patrik Svensson is an illustrator working with clients worldwide from his studio in Gothenburg, Sweden. He has created artworks for Starbucks, IKEA, Sony Music, etc. These playing card artworks are his set of semi-transformation courts for a deck of playing cards. I decided to omit the King of Hearts, Casanova, because I don’t think that a pornographic element is nice for this set.

DeviantART: Three Musketeers Playing Cards by Hannah Friederichs

  1. Three Musketeers Playing Cards

The Three Musketeers is a historical adventure novel by a French writer, Alexandre Dumas (24 July 1802 – 5 December 1870). The novel tells about the adventures of a young man named d’Artagnan (The King of Hearts) after he leaves home to travel to Paris with the aim to join the Musketeers of the Guard (a fighting company of the military branch of the Maison du Roi, the Royal Household of the French monarchy). The adventures take place in the 17th century. Three musketeers are d’Artagnan’s friends, Athos (The King of Spades), Porthos (The King of Clubs) and Aramis (The King of Diamonds). Their main adventure is caused by intrigues and queen’s vaudeville at the court of King Louis XIII (The King of Clubs – the second in this pack :)) and Queen Anne of Austria (The Ace of Diamonds?).

D’Artagnan finds and loses his love, Constance Bonacieux (The Queen of Hearts). She was killed by Milady de Winter (should be the Queen of Spades).

Definitely the artworks need additional improvement to become real playing cards. But they are quite nice.
