Dark Horse: Emily the Strange Playing Cards

Black Diamonds! Being alone suits Emily the Strange, so playing solitaire under a full moon is just as satisfying as playing Fifty-two Pick Up or Go Fish with her kitty posse. Between you and me . . . they tend to cheat. Creepified Emilyesque hearts, spades, diamonds, and clubs are strewn throughout a deck of playing cards, good for both playing tricks and telling (mis)fortunes. Here’s what you get: high quality playing cards with red edges packaged in a clear plastic box decorated with your favorite girl in black.” ~ Dark Horse

Emily the Strange is an advertising mascot character by Rob Reger for his company Cosmic Debris Etc. Inc. She first appeared on Santa Cruz Skateboards professional skater Ross Goodman’s skateboard graphics. Nathan Carrico designed Emily in 1991 for Santa Cruz Skateboards in Santa Cruz, California.

Upcoming: Gary Baseman “The Door is Always Open” Playing Cards

Gary Baseman is a leader within an international cultural movement that includes both mainstream and underground art. After a career as a top commercial illustrator, creator of Disney’s Teacher’s Pet animated show, and artist for the Cranium board game, he felt he should not be “limited to one world, whether the gallery world, editorial world, or art toy world.” He has now embraced them all with success.

In March 2013, the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles will install a major career retrospective, My Door Is Always Open, that will run for six months. Dark Horse is celebrating with a new range of merchandise, all selected and approved by Gary Baseman.

The fun and zany artwork from his “The Door is Always Open” exhibition is featured on these colorful Gary Baseman The Door is Always Open Playing Cards.

Release Date: April 17, 2013. Pre-order.
