Playing Card Art: Queen of Wands by Francesca Buchko

While this blog dedicated mainly to playing cards not Tarots sometimes it’s hard to pass some nice artworks which can be used in classic playing cards as well. This Queen of Wands (watercolour) was designed by Francesca Buchko. She painted it for the Tarot show (2012). You can see different stages of work on her blog and find out more about show on Light Grey Art Lab’s.

My piece took after the actual card quite a bit, but I wanted to focus on the tone and mood of the character in the piece. The Queen of Wands at her best is a social butterfly, amiable and likeable, frequently the center of attention. We don’t have a lot in common, but I can appreciate those traits–they were always something I wanted to have!” ~ Francesca Buchko. © 2012 Francesca Buchko

This Blog about This Blog: 50,000 Times Interesting for People

I want to say several words about new modest achievement of this blog. It did not take too long after the first month on WordPress to gain people’s attention 10,000 times.  And due to that I was pleased to see that my blog was really interesting for people. The third month on WordPress did not disappoint me as well – so many readers from so many places around the globe. It is so interesting. And now I can inform you that more than 50,000 times this blog was interesting for people. Not so bad result for the 4,5 months of its existence.

Main aims of this blog were described some time ago. I am glad that I was able (in different ways) to realize some of them. And I hope I will be able to continue with this.

As always this blog has been found interesting by new people from new places around the world since its third month on WordPress. It is so pleasant to see new readers from new countries (Azerbaijan, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bolivia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cambodia, Cameroon, China, Côte d’Ivoire, Dominican Republic, Estonia, French Polynesia, Gibraltar, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Jamaica, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Malawi, Slovenia, Uganda). At the same time the activity of the readers from different places varies. So I decided to share my Top 15 (according to the internal statistics of WordPress) with you. Maybe it will be interesting for you to find out that you are not the only one in your country who reads this blog.

Bēhance: Queens by Glenn Arthur

Glenn Arthur is an artist from Orange County, California, US. He was invited to be in a show at The Alternative Cafe with a fun little steampunk theme called “Parasols and Dirigibles” in 2012. He decided to put together a mini series of four paintings based on the queens from a deck of playing cards. Glenn didn’t want them to look traditional so he threw his own twist on the ladies by painting their faces with the suit that each one represents. Glenn adorned their heads in lilies with spade, heart, club, and diamond shaped stamen in place of crowns. He kept their hair and costumes in muted colors with designs, patches, his “G” key and his speciality hummingbirds to match their suits.
