Playing Card Art: Playing Cards by Dave Flanagan

Dave Flanagan is a British freelance illustrator and graphic designer.  Among his clients are: ESPN, Manchester City FC (Football Club), Hull City FC, Nottingham Forest FC, etc. He is a big fan of sport, so creates a lot of appropriate artworks. These several playing card artworks aren’t exception.

His King of Hearts is devoted to Eric Cantona, a French actor and former international footballer (Auxerre, Martigues, Marseille, Bordeaux, Montpellier, Nîmes, Leeds United and Manchester United) for the French national team. His most successful football career was in Manchester United. Cantona won four Premier League (an English professional league for men’s association football clubs) titles in five years and two League and FA Cup Doubles (an annual knockout cup competition in English football). Many MU’s fans are sure that he played a key role in the revival of Manchester United as a footballing force in the 1990s. That’s why he has an iconic status at the club. I guess that is why he is popular for playing card artworks.
