Theory11: Sentinels Playing Cards

03 Feb

The playing cards designed by Hatch, an industry leading design firm in San Francisco, California that produces illustrations for Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Starbucks, and Target.

The box is printed on imported paper 40% thicker than normal tuck cases – and has metallic accents on SIX sides. The art is embossed in 20 locations and coated with a matte varnish to enhance durability.

100% of original art – the faces, the backs, the box, even the court cards. The deck represents magic, the industry of deception, and the allied arts.” ~ Theory11.

Theory11 engaged Hatch to design a custom, limited-edition deck of playing cards inspired by Hermeticism, the ancient set of philosophical and religious beliefs based on the Egyptian writings associated with the Greek God Hermes.

Court cards represent the three parts of wisdom – Alchemy (Jacks), Astronomy (Queens), Theurgy (Kings) – as well as The All (Ace of Spades).. The elements of earth, fire, water, and air were also applied to the suits and are represented by graphic symbols throughout the deck.” ~ Hatch’s news 06/16/2010.

There are two editions of this deck. The number on a flap of each tack case specifies the edition of the deck. Also circles above apices of pyramids on backs contain that number of the edition.
