Bēhance: Card Noir Deck by AXL

These playing cards (a project) were designed by Hungarian artist AXL (nickname). His main inspirations for creating the deck were: the black and white world of the film noir genre, paper collages and the style of cigarette cartons with parallel lines and geometric shapes. AXL adhered to the rotated figures of traditional playing cards and he also kept the line-drawing style.

The artists used the four suits of playing cards to describe the different groups of characters. Basically the figures under the same sign are together, like they were in a film situation. He revealed the face and only one hand of each character to explore its personality and insider intensions. AXL also put symbolic objects around them to show their occupations or interests. There are some additional symbols on the ten cards too which can help with additional identification of the characters.

Kickstarter: The Type Deck by Chris Cavill

COMPLAINS ABOUT FULFILMENT

This deck designed by Chris Cavill to bring something different to the table. It can be the first deck in Typographic category which will be printed by USPCC in case of its successful funding on Kickstarter. Typographic decks in many cases are playing cards with pictures on them composed of letters and numbers of a specific font. These playing cards slightly differentiate this approach as they have letters combined in names of cards as artworks. Different fonts are used. Chris invented a nice idea for his court cards to keep them fitting the theme. I think it is still can be classified as a typographic deck.

Playing Cards and Literature: Lovecraft Cthulhu Mythos Deck by HPLHS

Howard Phillips Lovecraft (1890 – 1937) was an American author of horror, fantasy, poetry and science fiction, especially the subgenre known as weird fiction. Lovecraft is the originator of the Cthulhu Mythos story cycle which created a new shared fictional universe (a fictional universe to which more than one writer contributes).

The H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society (HPLHS) is the organization that hosts Cthulhu Lives!. It is a group of live-action roleplayers for the Cthulhu Live. Cthulhu Live itself is a live-action roleplaying game version of the popular horror roleplaying game Call of Cthulhu based on the works of H. P. Lovecraft. HPLHS was founded in Colorado (now it is based in California) in 1984.

The Society also produces a number of Cthulhu Mythos films and sound recordings under its Mythoscope and Mythophone labels. Additionally HPLHS produces different merchandise based on the Cthulhu Mythos theme including the deck of playing cards.
